North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I had forgotten how much I enjoy reading the classic but Elizabeth Gaskell's portrayal England in the 19th century certainly reminded me. Not only is this a great love story (with no kissing. What can I say it is a victorian novel.) but it also delves into the mandates of English society for the time period. Focusing on the roles of women, the differences between the agricultural south and the industrial north, the breaking down of class barriers, and the effect of religion.
I am proud to say that this will have a special place on my book shelf.

I've been reading Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell off and on, but just can't really get into it. Maybe I'll try North and South.
There are quite a few things I wanted to comment about on your blog, but for some reason this one jumped out at me. I don't have much to say except that I have this book and haven't found time yet to read it. Have you seen the movie? It is excellent - generally speaking, I think the screenplays of books are apples to oranges, but in this case I'm thinking both will be extraordinary. I'm very much enjoying reading your blog!
that`s a great book! with an interesting subject to follow!:)
