Think about your favorite authors, your favorite books . . .

What is it about them that makes you love them above all the other authors you’ve read? The stories? The characters? The way they appear to relish the taste of words on the tongue? The way they’re unafraid to show the nitty-gritty of life? How they sweep you off to a new, distant place? What is it about those books and authors that makes them resonate with you in ways that other, perfectly good books and authors do not?

This is easy.........it is the writing style. It can be a book about anything, but if the author is able to transport me to another place or time then I will read almost everything that author has written. They have to capture my attention and hold it...make me forget my umbrella on the train because I am too caught up in the words.

I thought a moment about your question and I understand clearly why They like the most. Because they make me feel that us , humans, are unique, capable of incredible things and, at the same time, fragile to the point to fail seconds before to succeed. They make me to have hope.
Of course they must have a non common writing style to so on me.
Some of my favorite's are King Lear, Homero's Iliada, (sorry, in Spanish): Los Miserables (Victor Hugo), La ciudadela (Cronin), Hölderlin (S. Zweig), El nombre de la rosa (Humberto Eco), etc.

Good question, make me think.
